Guatemala: Prequalification for Roadworks

Contractors will be pre qualified for the road construction project QUI-21: Chicamán - RD 06 AV Playa Grande and improvements to the road going from Lanquín to Cahabon.

Guatemala Government Purchase 4149939 - Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing:

"The road improvement program in ZONAPAZ II, Loan: GT-P6 - JICA, comprises the following sections, located in the departments of Quiche and Alta Verapaz, Guatemala:

-I Chicaman - El Soch - Seca 33.66 Km

-II Seca - Lancetillo - Saquixpec - El Paraiso 36.54 Km

-III El Paraiso - Rio Copón - Asención Copón - San Juan Chactelá 25.39 Km

-IV San Juan Chactelá - Playa Grande 45.6 Km

-V Lanquin - Cahabón 27.92 Km

-All Sections 169.11 Km

At present, these sections are dirt roads, which will be expanded, improved and paved. The improvement and paving of the routes indicated, also include the construction of vaults and bridges indicated. "

The deadline for receipt of bids is January 13, 2016.

Corruption in the Construction Sector

Construction contractors in Guatemala are worried that they will not be able to finish infrastructure works they have agreed to build because of the large amounts of money the government owes them.

The contractor' association estimates that the government owes its members up to 1.2 billion quetzals (about 160 million dollars).
