Guatemala: Vehicle Fleet up 75%

In 2018, the total of vehicles registered in the departments of the country's central region totaled 1.7 million units, 75% more than the figure reported in 2008.

According to statistics from the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT), the vehicle fleet registered in the departments of Guatemala, Sacatepéquez and Chimaltenango, has grown considerably in the last ten years, increasing from 982,430 in 2008 to almost 1.8 million units in 2018.

Lahora.gt reports that "... According to the Mayor of the Municipal Transit Police of the capital, Railcar Montejo, 220 new vehicles enter the city's vehicle fleet daily: newly acquired cars, motorcycles, heavy transport, among others. Approximately one million one hundred thousand vehicles circulate daily in Guatemala City, according to the official."


Regarding the brands of vehicles circulating, a report by CentralAmericaData details that in Guatemala the predominant are Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Hyundai, since they totaled about 68% of total registered units.

According to CentralAmericaData forecasts, with respect to the regional auto parts market between 2016 and 2017, the value of imported parts and vehicle spare parts in Central America registered an increase of 5%, up from $1.043 million in 2016 to $1.1 million in 2017.
