Guatemala: Nickel Deposit Found

Anfield Nickel Corp. discovered a nickel deposit in Tres Juanes Sur, in Izabal.

The Tres Juanes field is owned by Guatemalan Mayaníquel, SA, a subsidiary of Anfield Nickel Corp.

The site is located at a depth of 18.4 meters, grading 3.05% nickel.

Anfield Nickel Corp. exploration company focused on exploration and development of nickel resources. The company owns Mayaniquel, SA, a Guatemalan company which controls approximately 80,000 hectares of mining rights in the district around Lake Izabal.

The Constitutional Court cited damages to the environment and illegality in the process of granting the concession of the Sechol mine in Alta Verapaz, owned by Mayaniquel SA.

The Constitutional Court (CC) ruled in favor of the Environmental and Social Legal Action Center in Guatemala (CALAS) and ordered Mayaníquel SA to suspend the Sechol mining project, between the towns of Senahú and Panzós, Alta Verapaz.

Investment in Nickel Production in Guatemala

Russian firm Solway Investment Corporation plans to invest about $1.5 billion in the FeNix ferronickel mining project.

The project is operated by the Compañía Guatemalteca de Níquel (CGN), which was purchased by Solway from its former owner HudBay Minerals Inc.

Dimitry Kudryakov, new president of CGN, detailed the company’s three stage investment plan.

An economic feasibility study by Anfield Nickerson Corp has estimated average annual production 19,900 tons of ferronickel and a net present value of $606 million.

The Canadian company engaged in exploration and extraction, announced the conclusion of the economic feasibility study on the Mayaniquel project, a nickel mine in the northeast of Guatemala.
