Guatemala: New University Campus

The new headquarters of Rafael Landívar University cost approximately $2 million.

Funds for campus construction, located in Zacapa, were provided by the Federal Republic of Germany.

Since 1977, it has operated as regional headquarters. With the new infrastructure, it is being called a Campus and it has five faculties.

Panama: $70 million for University Building

The Faculty of Medicine will be built on a plot of 5.5 hectares and the Ministry of Health will oversee the tender of the architectural design drawings, construction, and equipment.

$70 million has been approved to build and equip the new Faculty of Medicine of the University of Panama.

Forced Closure of Universities in Panama

December 2012

For promoting unapproved courses, failures in the self-assessment process, and other serious offenses, the government of Panama has now closed four universities.

Other tertiary education institutions in Panama have been punished with temporary suspensions.

Laestrella.com.pa reports that "The President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, signed Executive Order 1205 of December 4, 2012 to close [definitively] International University, located in El Cangrejo."
