Guatemala Looking to Adhere to China - Costa Rica FTA

The Economy Ministry will study the Free Trade Agreement between Costa and Rica and China, by request from the National Export Promotion Council (Conapex).

Conapex requested the ministry to evaluate the possibility of strengthening trade ties with China through the Trade Agreement negotiated between the Asian giant and Costa Rica. These treaty allows other Central American nations to join in, nut negotiating separate terms and conditions.

Raúl Trajo Esquivel, Economy vice minister, explained Conapex's request to Prensalibre.com, adding that "in any case, China is the world's largest market, and I believe we must focus there in the long term".

Costa Rica - China FTA in Force in August

The Free Trade Agreement between Costa Rica and China will come into effect on August 1, 2011.

The Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Trade has indicated that they have fulfilled all the necessary operating procedures and exchange of diplomatic documents corresponding to the FTA with China which goes into effect on 1 August.

Chile helps Costa Rica with China FTA

Chilean experts are giving support to Costa Rican authorities to prepare for the FTA that the Government plans to begin negotiating with China in less than six months.

During the visit of Chilean president, Michelle Bachelet, cooperation mechanism in place were reaffirmed, such as support for trade negotiations, said the Costa Rica minister of Foreign Trade, Marco Vinicio Ruiz.
