Guatemala Launches Tourism Promotion Campaign

The Guatemalan Tourism Institute has launched its “Chapín, orgulloso anfitrión” ("Guatemala, proud host") campaign to promote local tourism.

The campaign, to be developed through September, comprises a series of activities with the aim of encouraging Guatemalans to appreciate what the country has to offer in respect of natural wealth, regional customs and traditions. reports that, "the sector's leading destinations such as Antigua Guatemala, Atitlán, Retalhuleu, Quetzaltenango and Petén have asked authorities for greater promotion of tourism as well as measures to improve public security and roads affected by recent rains".

The package offers are diverse in terms of days and they include discounts on food and lodging.

Rosa María Bolaños wrote in "Travel timeframes vary. For a one day trip, San José Pinula, Naciones Unidas Park, Monterrico, Sipacate and San José beaches, volcanoes in Pacaya and Ipala, Lake Atitlán, as well as ecological and archaeological sites are promoted."

The "Go on vacation without leaving your country" campaign aims to encourage local tourism for families, adventure holidays and the elderly, in 89 different destinations.

A program launched by the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat) has the support of 42 tour operators and aims to promote a culture of national travel.

Salvadoran tourism sector prepares to face the crisis

The Minister of Tourism will launch two publicity campaigns to promote tourism locally, regionally and in the US.

The publicity campaign's slogan will be "be a tourist in your own land" for the Salvadoran market and for the regional and American market there will be another campaign called "Elements".
