Guatemala: Foreign Investment Falls 2%

From January to June 2019, the country received $536 million in foreign direct investment, 2% less than in the same period of 2018.

According to data from the Bank of Guatemala, between the first semester of 2018 and the same period of 2019, foreign direct investment (FDI) that arrived in the country decreased by $10 million, going from $546 million to $536 million.

Elperiodico.com.gt reports that "... At the end of the first semester, commercial activity is the one that attracted the most FDI with US$174.3 million, although the figure is below the US$185 million that Guatemala received in the first semester of last year."

The article adds that "... Mexico and England are the main investors in this activity with US$46.1 million and US$44.5 million, respectively. The largest disinvestment in commercial activities was registered in Swiss companies with US$7.5 million. The manufacturing industry and financial activity are those that follow in the rankings of the investors who left in the country US$105.6 million and US$102 million in each activity. Colombia continues to be the strongest investor in banking with US$48.5 million."
