Figures from Agexport point out that from January to March 2017, the main fishery products exportedwere: shrimp, tuna, tilapia and dorado.
"...During the first quarter of this year, US $18.28 million of fishery products were exported, which means that the sector exported more than US $10.11 million compared to 2016, representing a 44% increase, said the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector Manager at AGEXPORT, Maria Olga Menéndez."
The main export markets for these products are the European Union (73%), the United States (19%), Mexico (7%), Asia (1%) and Central America (1%).

Shrimp exports fell to 5.8 million pounds during the first quarter of this year, 43% less than during the same period in 2008.
The drop in demand for the product in international markets and the decline in international prices, both a product of the global economic crisis, are the main factors behind the sharp drop in exports from an industry had been registering increases of up to 232% percent in sales abroad during the last three years.
