Guatemala: 3% Increase in Economic Activity up to May 2018
Trade and Financial Intermediation are the sectors that accounted for most of the increase recorded in the economic activity index during the fifth month of the year.

From the monthly report by Banco de Guatemala:
Economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate in May 2018 showed a growth rate of 2.6% (2.2% in May 2017).
The behavior described was influenced by growth shown by the following economic activities: Wholesale and retail trade; Financial intermediation, insurance and auxiliary activities; Agriculture, livestock, hunting, forestry and fishing; and the Manufacturing industries.
For its part, the seasonally adjusted series registered a variation rate of 0.4% in May 2018 compared to the previous month (0.1% in April 2018), while the trend cycle recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 2.8%, lower than the rate observed in the same month in the previous year (2.9%).
Exploitation of mines and quarries was responsible for most of the variation in the economic activity index in May of this year, registering a year-on-year increase of 2.4%.

For the third consecutive month, the trade sector was responsible for most of the variation in the index of economic activity, which registered a rise of 2% compared to the same month in 2016.
Commercial activities were mostly responsible for the growth in the economic activity index in December, which registered an increase of 4.5% compared to the same month in 2015.
