90% of the companies that operate in Guatemala are micro business that have 1 to 5 employees, according to data from the National Business Directory.

7.8% (15,253) are small companies with 6 to 19 employees; 2% (3,897) are medium companies with between 20 to 99 employees; and 0.3%, some 604 companies, are large business with more than 100 employees.

In the case of Nicaragua the subject is sensitive, "because 60 percent of its business backbone is made up of micro, small and medium enterprises, which account for 40 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), estimated at more than six billion dollars.

MSMEs: Adjustments to Minimum Wage

A rate of 10% per year was agreed for MSMEs in Nicaragua.

The National Minimum Wage Commission has decided that there will be a semi-annual adjustment of 118 Cordobas ($5.16) to the wages of workers in micro, small and medium businesses, according to review.

The labor panorama in CA indicates that the main generator of employment are the micro businesses that carry out non-agricultural activities.

Based on reports from Costa Rican analyst, Juan Diego Trejos, almost 50% of employment is concentrated in "low production, non-agricultural activities," that is, self-owned businesses, companies with less that 10 employees; in most cases these are informal companies.
