Guatemala: A country of small business
90% of the companies that operate in Guatemala are micro business that have 1 to 5 employees, according to data from the National Business Directory.

7.8% (15,253) are small companies with 6 to 19 employees; 2% (3,897) are medium companies with between 20 to 99 employees; and 0.3%, some 604 companies, are large business with more than 100 employees.
Over 50% of SMEs fail before they are three years old, 90% are no more than five years old and only 10% survive.
The Wordl Bank project supports the update of the Government’s Poverty Reduction Strategy under the National Human Development Plan, which has an emphasis on private sector development.
The labor panorama in CA indicates that the main generator of employment are the micro businesses that carry out non-agricultural activities.
A rate of 10% per year was agreed for MSMEs in Nicaragua.
