Guatemala: $5 Million for Schools

The government plans to use the funds to build and equip three schools in rural municipalities, as part of an $88 million investment plan in educational infrastructure .

In the first stage of the School Reform program, the resources, which come from the Alliance for Prosperity Plan, will go towards construction and equipment for three to four schools.

Deputy Minister of Intercultural Bilingual Education, Daniel Domingo López, explained to Agn.com.gt "...'The Schools Reform is a project ... focused on 45 priority municipalities under the Alliance for Prosperity Plan'."

"... The project includes 62 schools that will be chosen strategically, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Communications through the improvement and rehabilitation of roads. For this plan, which is estimated will be executed in three or four years, the Government of Guatemala has allocated about $88 million (687 million quetzales)."
