Guatemala: $1.49 Million Food Market

A new 'Municipal Market' is to be built in Sibinal, San Marcos, in the west of the country, with the aim of supporting agricultural commerce.

Guatemala's Departmental Council for Development (Codede) and Sibinal municipality have prioritized the financing of a $1.49 million investment in the construction of the new food market due to the importance of these facilities in stimulating the local economy, explained Francisco Mérida, regional governor.

Catalino Aguilar, Codede spokesperson, commented that, "the new market will encourage the purchase and sale of our products by providing an alternative to the current practice of setting up stalls in the street".

U.S. Disburses $75 Million to Honduras

Hugo Llorens, U.S. ambassador in Honduras, told members of the pres that they will renovate the Millennium Challenge program that expires on September 30.
One of the included projects is the expansion of the CA-5 highway.

Guatemala to Build a Regional Airport

July 2009

Located in the Esquipulas municipality, in the department of Chiquimula, the airport will serve 60 to 80 passenger planes.

Construction of the first stage will be funded with $2 million provided by the Council of Departmental Development, entity responsible for authorizing the project. Works will start once the air transport authority finishes pending studies.
