Dr. Roberto Herrera, Medical Director, stated that this infusion of capital ensures the strengthening of health services, expansion of facilities such as the acquisition of a parking lot adjacent to the Hospital, the purchase of the lots beside the medical center and the establishment of a master development plan.
"The projected growth of the Hospital exceeded our expectations in the short term and as part of our strategic plan it was the right time for a partner with such extensive experience and remarkable economic solvency, the Monte Cristo Group, to strengthen our services for the Costa Rican population.” said Dr. Herrera.
The Montecristo Group is owned by the Durman Esquivel family, which consists of a set of companies engaged in diverse business activities, among which Durman Esquivel PVC pipe and fittings and other agribusinesses, financial, technology, logistics and real estate, among others.
Francis Durman, CEO (Chief Executive) of Montecristo Group, said that as part of the competitive advantages created by this merger is the extensive experience gained through successful commercial experience of all the companies within the Group, mainly from Durman Esquivel, which was founded in Costa Rica in 1959 and currently has a presence in 13 countries.
The Metropolitan Clinical Hospital has positioned itself as the solution to private healthcare for the middle class Costa Ricans. In just six months of operations over 350 surgeries have been performed and have treated over 1500 patients.
The medical facility will open, during the first half of 2011, two new offices in Tibás and Heredia.
Hospital authorities reported that only in medical equipment they have invested $ 1 million, and that the opening of the center in Heredia is planned for March.
"The medical center expansion will continue in 2011 - due to injection of capital made by Monte Cristo Group (owned by the Durman Esquivel family) when it acquired majority of the shares in September 2010," explained El Financiero.
Costa Rican firm, Durman Esquivel, which is currently a part of the Belgian Aliaxis Group, bought PVC Celta, a pipe factory en Barranquilla. This is in addition to another company they already bought - Tuvinil - that is located in Cartagena.
Mario Gomez, legal representative of Durman Esquivel, said that the deal was sealed on August 11.
