Grupo ICE joins the Chamber of Information and Communication Technologies Costa Rica (CAMTIC)

Grupo ICE, composed of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and its subsidiaries, Radiográfica Costarricense (RACSA) and Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), joined the Chamber of Information and Communication Technologies (CAMTIC, for its acronym in Spanish) as a strategic partner since June 2009.

Grupo ICE has completed its process of membership and is now incorporated as a full rights member of this non profit association, which brings together companies in the sector of information and communication technologies (ICT) of Costa Rica.

CAMTIC authorities said that receiving Grupo ICE as new member represents a milestone and opens a wide range of potential synergies with other organizations that provide technology products and services in Costa Rica.

"Both in business and in technology, the convergence between information and communications technology are the present and will be the future in the evolution of the telecommunications market. These convergences should be encouraged in the ICT ecosystem and that’s the purpose that we discussed with Grupo ICE when assessing the application for membership to the Chamber", explained Alexander Mora Delgado, president of CAMTIC.

The executive president of Grupo ICE, Pedro Pablo Quirós Cortés, welcomed "the honor of being accepted as members of CAMTIC. We think CAMTIC has an important mission in present and the future development of the country".

The ICE Group has valued the leadership and representation of CAMTIC in the ICT sector and the large capacity and opportunity to complement their work with innovative companies such as those groupped in CAMTIC, so they can develop new business in the local and regional markets.
This partnership between Grupo ICE and CAMTIC aims to:

• Contribute to the development of human resources with solid training in converging technologies.
• Create national content to increase traffic to the networks of the Grupo ICE and support the foreign promotion of Costa Rican technologies.
• Encourage innovation and provide new technology services to businesses and families.
• Promote Costa Rica as a leading destination for investments in information and communication technologies (ICT).
• Create business partnerships between technology companies in the ICT sector in Costa Rica.

The two institutions agreed the immediate incorporation of Grupo ICE as a member of the Telecommunications and e-government sectorial committees that CAMTIC has created. They will also sponsor a training seminar for journalists on issues of telecommunications regulation and markets.

¿What is CAMTIC?
The Chamber of Information and Communication Technologies of Costa Rica (CAMTIC) was born in 1998 with the idea of forming a strategic block to strengthen and support the sector of information and communication technologies (ICT) of Costa Rica and today is the only organization of its kind in Central America.

At present, CAMTIC is the Executive Executive Vice President of the Latin American Association of Institutions of Information Technology (ALETI, for its acronym in Spanish) and is an active member of the International Federation of Information and Multimedia Associations (FIAM) and the World Information Technologies and Services Alliance (WITSA).
CAMTIC's mission is "to integrate and align the actions of various players in the sector of information and communications technologies (ICT) to promote their sustainable development and international competitiveness, as well as the socio-economic progress". Its vision is to be "an important supplier of innovative and high added value products and services of information and communication technologies (ICT), a convergence of local and international linkages in a friendly, democratic and secure environment".

¿What is Grupo ICE?
Grupo ICE is composed of a group of state companies agglutinated around the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE, for its acronym in Spanish), an organization founded in 1949 to contribute to national development through the generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy, among other strategies. Its affiliate companies are Radiográfica Costarricense (RACSA) and Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL).

Today, Costa Rica has one of the first places in the electricity supply in America with 98.6 percent of coverage. Since 1963, Grupo ICE assumed responsibility for developing the telecommunications in Costa Rica, using its subsidiary company RACSA to deal with information technologies issues.

Grupo ICE Group is one of the strongest business groups in Central America and a major national contributor in research and implementation of environmental policies and practices.
