Gravin Exported from Honduras to the United States

Conglomerates of Caribe S.A. will send its first shipment of 40,000 tons of gravin from Puerto Cortés to the United States.

Honduras's Office of the Secretary of Natural Resources and the Environment (Serna) offered, as a concession, the exploration of the Sapadril hill to the business conglomerates of Caribe S.A. (Agrecasa) during the government's previous administration. This export is the first since the beginning of its operations.

In an article in Tiempo.hn: "The ship brings its own team to collect the load and they guarantee a shipment of 1,000 tons per hour, 'which means that shipment operations will last two days', said José Vargas, who is from ENP."

Honduras: Mining Exports Up 23%

June 2017

In the first quarter of the year, exports from the mining sector totaled $39 million, an increase of 23% compared to the same period in 2016.

From a report by the Central Bank of Honduras:

The products classified in the mining activity accounted for an exported value of US $39.0 million, US $7.4 million (23.3%) more than in relation to March 2016; brought about by an improvement in the price of minerals in the international market, which has encouraged the largest shipments. 

New Honduran Mine Begins to Export Iron Oxide

The El Venado Mine has shipped its first cargo of iron oxide, more than 40 thousand tons, bound for China.

According to Henrique Ayala, manager of the consortium that runs the mine, this will be the first of many shipments which will be sent over the 20 year life of the mine.

Construction sparks a mining boom in Panama

Production by Panama's mines and quarries increased by 31 percent in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period of 2007. The growth is being spurred by a construction boom and high international metal prices.

Demand for rock, sand, gravel and other materials has soared for projects that include the increase in the capacity of the Panama Canal, port expansions, the construction of a seafront boulevard, and residential developments.
