Grave Crisis Affects Operations in Puerto Cortes

Operators claim that the management situation of the National Port Company "is critical, and this is reflected in its poor performance."

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Equipment in poor condition and problems inherited from previous administrations are some of the allegations being made by the Honduran Association of Companies and Representatives of Shipowners (Ahcorena).

Ahcorena’s Executive Director, Oscar Giron, told Laprensa.hn that, "the situation is critical and this is reflected in the port’s poor performance. It has declined tremendously, as the operation of port and mobile cranes with specialized equipment is not delivering necessary performance, to the extent that the number of moves (loading and unloading of containers) has gone down from 25 to 14 per hour, which means an additional cost for both the exporter and the importer. ".

For his part, General Manager of the National Port Company (ENP), Dario Gamez, responding to statements by Oscar Giron, said: "Ahcorena is also responsible for the crisis that exists in the Port, because they are members of the Board of this company and know the reality of the country's ports ... ".
