Good Grades for Central American Coffees

Coffees from farms in Panama, Guatemala and Costa Rica took the top places in the international competition organized by the Rainforest Alliance.

In the event held in California and New York, 80 farms certified by the institution from 11 nations participated.

La Prensa published on its website: "The highest score was for Hacienda La Esmeralda from Panama with 88.99 points, followed by Santa Elisa Pachup (85.74) and La Pampa (84.96) from Guatemala, according to a panel of 20 tasters. Fourth place went to Finca Santa Anita in Costa Rica with 84.92."

Alliance to Improve Coffee Quality

Costa Rica and Guatemala, together with Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Kenya will participate in the “Ecocolaboration” program of the Rainforest Alliance.

The Rainforest Alliance created an alliance with Nestlé Nespresso that aims to have 80% of their coffee coming from Rain Forest Alliance Certified farms by the year 2013.

Costa Rica: Rainforest Invites Samples for Coffee Quality Contest

The deadline for submitting samples is March 8th.

“Cup of Excellence” will Select Best Coffee in Costa Rica

For a week starting from May 9 a group of national and international tasters will be choosing Costa Rica's best coffee.

Judges from Brazil, the United States, Japan, Germany, Holland, England, Russia, Norway and New Zealand will participate in the decisive stage of Cup of Excellence competition. The winning selections of grain varieties will be auctioned on the internet on June 21.

Honduran Coffee Participates in U.S. Fair

The Annual Fair of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the most important in its field, will take place between April 15 and 18.

This event will be hosted by the city of Anaheim, California, and expects the participation of 8.000 coffee professionals.

Honduran coffee will be tasted by international buyers at a large stand, competing directly with the world’s best, stated Mario Ordóñez, from the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafé).
