First round of negotiations for the Costa Rica - China FTA

From today through Wednesday the meeting will be held in San Jose, and will be the first encounter to define the action plan that will be followed.

Elfinancierocr.com reports: "The chief negotiator for Costa Rica, Fernando Ocampo, explained that 9 groups will meet to discuss the main topics of the negotiation, including, rules of origin, market access, commercial defense, sanitation and phytosanitary measures, services and investment, conflict resolution and intellectual property and the promotion of trade relations.

FTA Costa Rica - China: Fifth Round

November 2009

The fifth negotiation round for a Free Trade Agreement between both countries starts this week.

Technical teams from both countries have scheduled an intense agenda for the week. They want to reach agreements in several chapters such as Technical Obstacles to Commerce, Health Measures, Cooperation, Dispute Settlement and Market Access.

5th Round for China-Costa Rica FTA

February 2010

In this round both parties expect to close a number of chapters, including national treatment, food health measures, intellectual property and cooperation.

Fernando Ocampo, Costa Rica's chief negotiator, explained that they have already agreed on 90% of the Free Trade Agreement regulation.

Costa Rica: Few Exclusions in China FTA

September 2009

The country would request excluding products from the Free Trade Agreement only in very justifiable cases.

Local industrialists requested to exclude products which already have no tariff and are not produced in the country. In response, Commerce Minister Marco Vinicio Ruiz argued that it's very complicated to explain the Chinese as to why such exclusions.

Costa Rican Meat Requests Access to China

November 2009

This was announced in the fifth negotiation round for a Free Trade Agreement between both countries.

Costa Rica's negotiators requested immediate, tariff free entrance for chicken, beef and pork.

Fernando Ocampo, Costa Rican chief negotiator, remarked that "... getting access to China for our meats will be difficult, but we will insist.
