Ambassador Ron Kirk, director of the Office of the United States Trade Representative, at a hearing before the U.S. Congress, said that there was no secret in the fact that they have been working hard with the Government of Panama in recent weeks to address important issues so that the treaty can be sent to Congress for consideration.
The U.S. will begin this year a process to resolve outstanding issues preventing the ratification of these treaties.
The US Foreign Trade Secretary will begin consultations at the congressional level.
Along with free trade agreements with South Korea and Colombia, Panama’s agreement with the USA will be approved this evening in the U.S. Senate.
The US Government will push the Free Trade Agreement with Panama "relatively quickly," said the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
