Expotur 2009 Aims at New Market Niches

Tourist Fair Expotur Costa Rica 2009, from May 13-15, will bet on new markets such as medical, educational and conferences.

Fair organizers expect the participation of 200 companies from 25 countries, including wholesalers, tour operators, travel departments and event organizers.

There will also be 300 Costa Rican companies participating and offering their products and services.

According to La Prensa Libre of Costa Rica, the president of the Costa Rican Association of Tourism Professionals (ACOPROT), Carlos Lizama, noted that “there are new goals in Expotur 2009, such as diversification of the tourism industry in Costa Rica."

With the participation of 200 international tourist companies the XXVII edition of EXPOTUR ends on May 13 in Costa Rica.

The event under the theme "Culture and Tourism: The perfect symbiosis" is organized by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute and the Association of Tourism Professionals (ACOPROT).

Yadira Simón, head of the Association, argued that the event is used by tourism operators from Europe, Asia and America, to find new destinations for their customers.

Local hotels, adventure tour companies and transportation services filled several rooms at the Ramada Plaza Herradura conference center in Cariari, a northwestern San José suburb, yesterday for the first day of EXPOTUR.

The tourism conference, organized annually by the Costa Rican Association of Tourism Professionals (ACOPROT), runs through Sunday. Some 260 businesses set up stands for more than 100 travel companies.

Expotur, Costa Rica's leading tourism fair, will be attended by 219 representatives of 140 companies from the North and South America, Europe and Israel, the Costa Rican Association of Tourism Professionals (Acoprot) reported.

Acropot Lizama, the Acoprot president, said that 270 companies from Costa Rica and the rest of Central America would also be represented at the event, which runs from May 13 through 15.
