Export of plantains increase in Nicaragua

Exports continue to grow in importance for the national economy and is expected to reach $3.5 million at the end of the year.

In the first three months of this year, plantain sales to the exterior reached a total of 3.01 million dollars; these exports were carried out with support from the APEN Export Office (OFEX) which is strongly oriented towards quality and commercialization for plantain producers in Rivas.

There are four countries that are the main suppliers of plantains to the US: Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Costa Rica, however the demand for Nicaraguan plantains is increasing.

Nicaraguan Exports Increase 15%

August 2012

In the first seven months of the year, exports showed a significant increase in volume (14.9%) and value (13.3%), compared to the same period in 2011.

According to the Data Processing Center for Exports (Cetrex), at the end of July, the total value of exports was $1.635 million.

Nicaragua reports higher exports

July 2008

Exports from Nicaragua have increased by 30.5 percent during the first half of 2008, compared with the same period a year earlier.

The January-June exports totalled 835.3 million dollars, up from 640.6 million dollars in the first half of 2007, according to a report issued by the Center for Processing Exports (CETREX) in its preliminary monthly report.

Huge growth in Nicaraguan exports

Nicaraguan exports could close the year (2008) at $2 billion, surpassing the figure for 2007 by more than $250 million.

Enrique Zamora, President of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN), confirmed that 35-40% of the growth is due to improved prices for their products in the international market, and 15% due to the increase in volume.

Costa Rica's January-May exports up by 7.8 percent

June 2008

Costa Rica increased its exports by 7.8 percent between January and May of this year, with almost all productive sectors showing improvement.

Only bananas and melons failed to show an increase, the Ministry of Foreign Trade reported in a news release.
Total exports for the period were 4.175 billion dollars, an increase of about 300 million dollars from the same period in 2007.
