Expectations for Tourism in Honduras

Following 2017's 5% increase in the arrival of foreign tourists, the authorities foresee an increase of 6% for this year.

Regarding the figures on domestic tourism, authorities in the sector estimate that last year this item generated an economic spillover of about $2.122 million, an amount that they aim to exceed in 2018.

In relation to the figures on domestic tourism and expectations for it, the director of the Honduran Institute of Tourism, Emilio Silvestri, explained to Laprensa.hn that " ...'We expect significant growth in domestic tourism. In Easter Week alone we registered 200,000 more tourists compared to 2017. This tells us that we are on the right track and that the projections will be reached."

Silvestri added that " ... regarding the entry of international tourists, including cruise passengers, it foresees 2018 closing with growth of 6%, about 120,000 more. 'This year we will see greater dynamism in tourist numbers'. "

In 2014 and 2015 statistics produced by the builders' association registered drops of 11% and 2% respectively, but this year the situation could change, as they foresee that the execution of 160 public and private projects will generate a growth of up to 3% in activity.
