Since the approval of the General Law of Electricity (1996), it is observed that this activity is the one that contributes the most to the Guatemalan economy, since for every Q1 that is invested Q3.61 is obtained. That is why it is necessary to attend to the conflict which is affecting it."

Regarding the conflict faced by companies in the sector, Maynor Amézquita, spokesman for Energuate, said that "... That distributor loses US $50 million a year, between uncollectible accounts and theft of fluid in 8 departments... We have the support of the Presidential Dialogue Commission, which has generated contacts with mayors, but requires greater systematic support to solve this problem."
