Taiwan Businesses to Visit Guatemala

The Asian country is primarily interested in Guatemalan products such as lumber and fish flour.

In August 2009, a group of Taiwanese businessmen will visit Guatemala looking to take advantage of the possibilities created by the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries which has been ratified since July of 2006.

According to the website Prensalibre.com, the Ambassador of Taiwan in Guatemala, Adlofo Sun, as well as the president of the Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce, Jorge Briz, both confirmed the interest in Guatemalan fish flour by the Asian businessmen.

Additionally, the Taiwanese Ambassador assured the website that “Calculations show that $150 million will be generated by these deals.”

According to the Taiwanese Embassy in El Salvador during the first 11 months of 2013, exports from the Central American nation to Asian countries grew by 576 %. Among the products that are exported to Taiwan are sugar, coffee, fish meal, paper, cardboard, plastics.

Guatemala's Trade Mission to Taiwan

On November 19th, eight Guatemalan companies will travel to the Asian nation with the aim of promoting the sale of Guatemalan coffee and tea.

Prensalibre.com reports: "This is the second mission from Guatemala that will go to Taiwan so far this year and in this activity Guatemala tea will also be offered".

Guatemalan Trade Mission Visits Taiwan

Guatemalan businesses and diplomats have traveled to south east Asia with the aim of strengthening the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between the countries four years ago.

Another of the visit's goals is to explore the potential for Guatemala's to take advantage of the Economic Co-operation Framework Agreement (ECFA) recently signed between Taiwan and China.
