MINEC seeks to position El Salvador as a source of technological development
The Ministry of Economy, through the Directorate of Productive Chains, is aiming to position El Salvador as a source of technological development, since there is a growing demand for value-added services, both nationally and internationally, contributing to the growth of the aggregate supply in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs).
The economy minister, Armando Flores, declared that the ICT sector is of strategic importance in the national economy as a source of growth, since, as the sector develops, the country's economic growth is greater.
Minister Flores made these comments during the presentation of the results of the study entitled "Development of the value chain for products in the Information and Communications Technologies sectors (ICTs) in El Salvador", conducted by the Directorate of Productive Chains with support from the Salvadoran Fund for Pre-investment studies (FOSEP).
According to Flores, as a result of the study, 25 initiatives of strategic-oriented projects have been identified, such as education, business competitiveness, research and development, infrastructure and environment, of which 5 projects have been prioritized, which will have an impact throughout the chain and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the sector in the country.
Panama comes out top (66 in the world), followed by Costa Rica (71), El Salvador (103), Honduras (107), and then Nicaragua (113). Guatemala does not appear in the general list.
In Latin America Uruguay is first (50 in the overall list), followed by Chile (55), Argentina (56), Brazil (60).
Top of the list in the region is Panama (57 in the world), followed by Costa Rica (58), Guatemala (98), Honduras (99), El Salvador (103) and Nicaragua (131).
The Global Information and Communication Technologies Report 2012 is prepared by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in collaboration with INSEAD Business School.
