El Salvador and Cuba Negotiate Trade Agreement

From March 8 through March 10, Salvadoran negotiators are meeting with their Cuban peers in Havana.

The meetings are in response to interest shown by Salvadoran exporters, who already export to Cuba, to create a permanent framework that will facilitate and increase trade with Cuba.

According to Director of Trade Policy, Carlos Brown, a partial agreement is expected within three rounds of negotiations, which is what is scheduled now.

Discussed at these meetings was promotion and cooperation between the two nations, as well as to promote technology transfer from Cuba to El Salvador, said Moreno.

He said some of the topics addressed during meetings are: Market Access, Rules of Origin, Dispute Settlement, Sanitary and Health Certifications, among others.

Currently El Salvador exports to Cuba goods such as medicines, syringes, serums, paper, cardboard, needles and sleep mattresses, to name a few.

El Salvador Signs a Partial Scope Agreement with Cuba

On Monday September 19, 2011 the country signed a Partial Scope Agreement with the Republic of Cuba, to strengthen commercial ties between both nations.

A press release from the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador reads:

The Agreement was signed by the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, Hector Dada Hirezi and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Cuba, Orlando Hernández Guillén, as representatives of each Republic and Deputy Minister of Cooperation for Development of El Salvador, Jaime Miranda, as witness of honor.

El Salvador and Cuba Cooperation Agreements

The four agreements are part of a package of 10 agreements of different kind which are under negotiations.

The first agreement, signed during initial negotiations between Cuban and Salvadoran businessmen, is the acceptance of principles and objectives which must be met during the negotiations of a Partial Agreement for the mutual granting of tariff preferences.
