El Salvador and Cuba Sign Cooperation Agreements

Two of the agreements concern direct flights between the countries and the purchase of Cuban medicines by El Salvador.

The foreign secretaries from El Salvador, Hugo Martínez, and Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, announced the possibility of establishing an aviation treaty that will enable direct flights between San Salvador and Havana to begin in the short term.

The health agreement, signed in this case by Minister Martínez y the Cuban Health Minister, José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, will support El Salvador’s primary health care strategy.

In addition, an education agreement was signed with the aim of promoting cooperation as well as projects to provide technical, academic and sporting support.

Open Skies Agreement Between Costa Rica and Singapore

The governments of both countries signed an Open Skies agreement which allows designated airlines to fly between the two countries.

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Carlos Segnini and his counterpart from Singapore, Lui Tuck Yew, signed a memorandum of understanding which will allow for, in the short term, a formal open skies agreement between the two countries.

The Solis administration has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government to begin studying the feasibility of setting up a special economic zone in Costa Rica for enterprises from China.

As part of the agreement signed between the two governments, feasibility studies will be started along with defining where the zone will be sited.

The United States will spend $277 million on investment in public infrastructure, with an additional contribution from the Salvadoran government of $88 million.

Agreement between Panama Canal and Port of Virginia strengthened

The Panama Canal Authority and the American Port of Virginia have ratified an agreement to share information and to promote the "all-water" route from Asia to the east coast of the United States.

The strategic alliance of mutual cooperation was renewed with the signatures of the Panama Canal Authority, Alberto Alemán Zubieta, and the executive director of the Virginia Port Authority, Jerry Bridges.
