El Salvador to host AFIDA assembly

El Salvador will host the general assembly of the Association of International Trade Fairs of America (AFIDA) in April nest year, Tourism Minister Rubén Rochi announced.

Rochi was speaking at the ninth congress of the Iberoamerican Union of Fairs in Orense, Spain.
The AFIDA decision reflects El Salvador's growing role as a host of business conventions and trade fairs, Rochi said.

El Salvador: Tourist tax collections increase

The special tax that international tourists pay as they leave the country from the El Salvador International Airport has provided the country with 1.7 million dollars between January and March of this year.

Last year the tax yielded 7.1 million dollars, up from 6.1 million dollars in 2006. The goal for 2008 is to get 8.2 million dollars, said Tourism Minister Rubén Rochi.

Businessmen from several countries participate in Nicaragua's tourism forum

Businessmen from Canada, Costa Rica, Spain, the United States, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Nicaragua will take part in a tourism forum whose goal is to promote investment in this country, according to official sources.

The one-day event, called "Invest in Nicaragua: Explore New Horizons" will take place in Leon, 90 kilometers northeast of Managua.

New campaign launched to promote Honduras as a tourist destination

The Honduras Tourism Ministry today launched a new campaign with its "country brand" to promote its tourist attractions internationally.

The new campaign will cost 1.265 million dollars. Of this 750,000 will be spent in the United States, said Tourism Minister Ricardo Martínez. Another 250,000 dollars will be spent on promotions in Central America, and the rest will promote domestic tourism in Honduras.

The new Minister of Tourism said that he will prioritize relationships with mayors and the private sector to increase investment in the sector.

Napoleón Duarte believes that the tourism plan that has been implemented is technically well designed, but it must undergo some changes to suit the economic and financial crisis.
