El Salvador Signs a Partial Scope Agreement with Cuba

On Monday September 19, 2011 the country signed a Partial Scope Agreement with the Republic of Cuba, to strengthen commercial ties between both nations.

A press release from the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador reads:

The Agreement was signed by the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, Hector Dada Hirezi and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Cuba, Orlando Hernández Guillén, as representatives of each Republic and Deputy Minister of Cooperation for Development of El Salvador, Jaime Miranda, as witness of honor.

With the signing of the Agreement trade flows are expected to increase, as are investments and cooperation in products of interest to both countries. Among the products which will enjoy tariff preferences are poultry products, honey, tropical fruits, flour, chocolates, bread, beer, rum, tobacco, cement, pharmaceuticals, plastics, paper and cardboard, and shoes, among others.

In addition to tariff preferences, the Agreement contains provisions that enable better business relationships relating to Rules of Origin, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Technical Barriers to Trade, Trade Protection, Dispute Settlement and Cooperation.
