El Salvador bans the import of Chinese milk productos

Health regulators in the country are recalling all candies that were made with milk from the Asian country.

The alert, declared last week by the Ministry of Health, Agriculture and Farming, as well as the Consumer Protection Agency, is to protect the population, Urbina confirmed.
In the first instance, "what we have done is to suspend the import of products form China," as well as to cease milk (if found) in stores in El Salvador, the health expert indicated.

El Salvador Restricts Pork Imports from Guatemala

The measure announced by the Salvadoran government applies to the import of live pigs, meat and meat products.

The prohibition of the importation of pigs from Guatemala is being maintained

Dairy Products From Uruguay Allowed to Enter Panama

Panamanian food authorities have given permission for six facilities to export Uruguayan dairy to that market.

On Wednesday May 22 this year, both the General Director of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay (MGAP) Alberto Castelar, and the Director of the International Affairs Unit Alejandro Mernies of the same ministry announced a new breakthrough in international integration as part of the Government's strategic guidelines in market diversification.This news was that Panamanian food safety authorities have given permission for six facilities to export Uruguayan bovine dairy products to that market.

Panama: $19 million For Dairy Imports

On the National Producers Stock Exchange, known as BAISA, 13 companies are bidding for import licenses for nearly five thousand metric tons of dairy products.

The $18.8 million quota negotiated must enter the country until June 30, 2013. Skimmed milk and curd will be imported from the United States and whole milk from New Zealand.

Milk: Guatemala Less, Costa Rica More

Costa Rica’s milk sales were of $93 million in 2011, while Guatemala’s production has dropped so much that it had to import 66% of its demand.

Guatemala produces 1.8 million liters of milk, according to the Chamber of Milk Producers of Guatemala, which barely covers 34% of its domestic demand."In the past 40 years, it has gone from being the country with the highest milk production in the region, to the largest importer of dairy products", said Nery Orrego, CEO of the Chamber of Milk Producers, reported Prensalibre.com.
