El Salvador: $ 47 Million in Road Infrastructure

This year the Road Maintenance Fund (Fovial) will invest in the maintenance of 6,544 km of roads.

Fovial Director, Eliud Ayala, said that in the course of this week he signed 22 contracts for the maintenance of paved roads and is expected that during the next week to sign another 26 contracts for unpaved roads.

Officials said the contracts for paved roads will include execution of at least 1 kilometer of repaving areas which present severe damage. In San Salvador the work will require more than that, up to 2 kilometers of repaving according to Ayala. They have increased the amount of contracts and the implementation period is 12 months," reports the article in Laprensagrafica.com.

Fovial, the road maintenance authority, will began repairing the damages caused by tropical storm Ida.

Eliud Ayala, Fovial subdirector, explained they will focus first in repairing damaged bridges in the central area of the country.

“They will repair the 43 bridges affected by the storm, with the exception of those over rivers Acahuapa and Huiza”, reported Laprensagrafica.com.
