El Salvador Tenders Solar Energy Projects

Bidding for the installation of solar panels at the Cerron Grande and 15 de Setiembre dams will take place in February.

Luis Garcia, manager of the renewable energy department of the Executive Hydroelectric Commission of Río Lempa (CEL), said that with the installation of the panels on the two hydroelectric power plants approximately 0.5 MW will be generated. He added that this will be the starting point for developing solar energy projects.

"By 2011, studies are planned to determine the technical feasibility, economic and financial health of a solar power plant of 3 MW with grid connection," reports the article in Laprensagrafica.com.

Two state run Chinese companies and one Costa Rican company have signed a letter of intent to install a solar power plant of 4 MW, in Carrillo, Guanacaste Province.

The Chinese companies, Guoxin Group, a producer of photovoltaic panels and the company Nari Group Corporation, dedicated to power management, have formed a partnership with a Costa Rican group formed by Azucarera El Viejo and the company Greenersys, an equipment supplier. The estimated investment in the project is $10 million.

Solar Power Plant in Panama

The state-owned Electricity Generating Company will set up 11,800 solar panels in the Sarigua National Park with which it plans to generate 2.4 megawatts.

With these 11,800 solar panels they plan to generate 30% of the energy consumed by the district Parita.

The photovoltaic power plant will make 2.4 megawatts of power in the first phase and in the second phase capacity will be doubled (4.8 MW), reported the state-run Electricity Generating Company (Egesa).

Spanish corporation Solar Millennium will conduct a study to assess the potential and possibilities for solar energy generation in the country.

CEL, the nation’s energy company, signed an agreement with Solar Millennium to share knowledge and technology for generating solar energy.
