El Salvador: Tender for $26 Million Road Development

On 27 September the company to be responsible for the construction of the second stretch of the Bulevar Diego highway will be announced.

The $26 million project, financed by a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will begin in February 2011 and last up to a year.

"One of the tender's fundamental requirements was that companies sign an integrity agreement involving a 'social witness' to oversee the process belonging to a university or non-governmental organization (NGO)," reports Elsalvador.com.

After two failed tender processes, El Salvador's Minsitry for Public Works (MOP in Spanish) has received four bids to construct the new highway.

The new highway will connect the country's capital San Salvador with Santa Tecla 9.9 kilometers (6.5 miles) away.

According to a MOP press release, of ten companies that were invited to tender, four have expressed an interest in building the second stretch of the Bulevar Diego de Holguín road, which will see the project completed.

The Ministry of Public Works postponed until November 26th the date for opening bids.

The receipt and opening of bids for the construction of boulevard Diego de Holguín was scheduled for Thursday November 11th, according to the initial schedule.

"Public Works Minister, Gerson Martinez, explained that the main reason was the number of inquiries received from prospective bidders on the project.

$18 Million for Highway in El Salvador

A loan by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration will help conclude stretch II of Boulevard Diego de Holguín.

Gerson Martínez, public works minister, explained that they expect to begin construction on August, once the Legislative approves the loan. Then they will invite companies to bid for its construction.

Construction of stretch II of the "Diego de Holguín" boulevard will be granted to a different company, through a bidding process.

Gerson Martínez, Public Works Ministry, informed that the basis for the bids are almost ready and they expect to invite bids in August.

"He also said that $13 million have been requested to the Central American Economic Integration Bank (BCIE).
