El Salvador: Scanned Inspections Fee Per Declaration

It has been announced that a rate of $18 for scanned inspections of containers will be charged per declared goods and not per truck, as has been charged so far.

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

With the new measure a change will be made to how the scanned inspections are charged, which will mainly affect companies that share vans to reduce costs, because up until now the charge for inspections using X-ray machines was applied per truck and not to individual goods.

Elsalvador.com reports that "... before a van paid a single rate of $18 for ten goods from ten different companies, now, with this change, they will pay $180 to use one of the six scanners that are located in six different customs offices in the country. "

"... In a paid publicity slot the finance ministry justified the charging method, claiming that El Salvador has the lowest charge for non-intrusive inspections compared to other countries such as Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras where payments range from $38 to $100 for this review process. "
