El Salvador: New Bridge Tender

It has been announced that the $8.4 million contract signed with Serdelco SA for the design and construction of the bridge between Chalatenango and La Libertad will be canceled and the works will be re-tendered.

It is expected that in February there will be an announced about the tender mechanism to be used to continue the project, in which so far on the desing phase has been finished. The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) works is currently in the process of cancelling the contract so that the the process for building the bridge can then start.

Liud Ayala, vice of the MOP told Laprensagrafica.com that "... The design phase has been virtually completed and that was what we were most interested in having finished. No construction work has been carried out, they dedicated themselves to completing the design. "

"... The design-build contract for the San Isidro bridge, on the Lempa River, which joins Chalatenango and La Libertad, was signed with the company Qualified Construction Services, SA (SERDELCO), in the amount of $8.4 million. "

After multiple attempts to liquidate the contract and collect the bonds for the road works that were awarded to the Brazilian construction company, the Guatemalan government has finally received the money and will be able to tender the works again.

Representatives from the executive board announced that they have already received two bonds corresponding to the road works for 140 kilometers of the CA-2 highway, meaning that the path to bidding for new contracts is practically open.

Guatemala to Claim $122 million from Odebrecht

Following the Brazilian construction company's abandonment of the road work contract that had been awarded, the government intends to make a claim on the advance payment and performance bails which amounts to $122 million.

The contract consisting of the extension of 140 kilometers of the CA-2 West highway was awarded to the construction company Odebrecht in 2012, however, the company abandoned the work after performing work on only 43 kilometers.  

Panama: Relaunch of Tender for Ave Fenix Project

Due to alleged overruns of $4 million the Ave Fenix project, valued at $13 million, has been canceled and it was announced that it will be put out to tender again.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Housing and Land Management (Miovit):

The continued construction of Ave Fénix Project in the village of El Chorrillo, which will benefit the first 40 families who for years have waited for a decent home, will begin in the coming months, announced by the Minister of Housing, Land, Mario Etchelecu.

El Salvador: Bridge Construction Tender

The Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the construction of San Isidro Bridge, over the Rio Lempa, La Libertad - Chalatenango.

The Bridge is located at Km 75.5 of Ruta LIB31N, and connects with Route CHA25 in the departmental boundary between La Libertad - Chalatenango, and is located at the following coordinates: Latitude: 14 ° 03'01 .49''N and Longitude: 89 ° 20'14.24''W, over the River Lempa in the Department of Chalatenango, whose contract will be in the form of unit costs.
