El Salvador: July inflation at 9.6%

The increase in prices in July, measured by the Consumer Price Index, rose to 9.6%, the Department of Statistics and Census reported.

Just between June and July, prices rose an average of 1.3%, with the biggest increase in the price of food items at 2.4%, explained Miguel Corleto, head of DIGESTYC. Corleto also announced that starting January 2009 inflation will be measured using a new Consumer Price Index, which has been development based a new basket food and service basket that responds to changes in the consumer habits of Salvadorans.

Costa Rica: Inflation 0.62% in March

Annual inflation accumulated in March reached 3.26%, driven by increases in articles for the home and domestic services, transportation and entertainment.

The National Institute of Statistics and Census has released a report on the main results of the Consumer Price Index for the month of September 2012.

September showed a variation of 0.07% compared with the index for the month of August, while the cumulative change in the last twelve months of the General Index is 4.47%, less than the variation of the same period last year (5.17%).

Costa Rica: March Inflation at 0.24%

The consumer price index increased 0.24% in March, a rise of 2.57% so far 2010.

Alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, dining out, rent and housing services increased the most.

El Financiero reports: “Inter annual variation (April 2009 – March 2010) stood at 5.84%, 6.48 points less than the previous year (12.32%)”.

Inflation goes up to 9.9% in El Salvador

September 2008

The increase in the price of basic grains and fuel has caused the consumer price index (CPI) to reach its highest level since the country dollarized its economy and the highest in the last 12 years.

These high levels of the CPI coincide with the period in which petroleum also reached all-time record highs, above $147 per barrel in July.
