El Salvador: International Trade in April 2013

From a Foreign Trade Report published by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

During the first half of 2013, global economic activity shows signs of economic growth on a smaller scale. While growth projections for future years show a stable trend. In the same vein, the dynamics in global trade flows, which usually doubles output growth, is expected to remain the same for 2013, thereby repeating the behavior observed during 2012.

The evolution of international trade suggests that El Salvador is within the global trend during the first quarter of 2013, the country has accumulated exports worth $1.8515 billion, an increase of 1.8% compared to the amount observed in the same period last year. The aggregate result reflects the more dynamic development of non-traditional exports which grew by 3.4%. Also, the Maquila industry had a favorable performance registering a growth rate of 7.9%, driven primarily by exports from the Chemical Industry.

According to the report entitled "Trends in Foreign Trade in 2013 in El Salvador" prepared by the Ministry of Economy (Minec) exports in 2013 totaled $5.491 billion, an increase of 2.8 % compared to 2012, when the total figure was $5.339 billion .

Growing Trade Deficit in El Salvador

During the first ten months of 2013 the difference between imports and exports grew by 8.5%, reaching $4.4142 billion.

From a press release issued by the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador:

Salvadoran exports up to October 2013 amounted to $4.6659 billion, an increase of $161.7 million compared to the same period in 2012, showing a growth rate of 3.6% a year, according to the Department of Studies and Economic Statistics at the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador.

Costa Rica's Exports Up by 11% in First Half

July 2012

Costa Rica exported $5.851 million in goods during the first half of 2012, reflecting a 10.9% increase compared to the same period in 2011.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Trade reads:
Costa Rica exported U.S. $5,851 million in goods during the first half of 2012, reflecting a 10.9% increase compared to the same period in 2011.
