El Salvador Starts Construction of Lempa River Bridge

With a $2.3 million price tag, the bridge is the first project of the Northern Longitudinal Highway ("Carretera Longitudinal del Norte").

The bridge will feature two lanes of 3.23 meters width, and is a key element of the highway stretch that runs from Metapán, Santa Ana, to Nueva Concepción.

José Angel Quirós, Fomilenio director, remarked: "'The first stretch will cost $59 million', and will be built in three parts. Part 2A runs from Metapán to Santa Rosa Guachipilín, part 2B1 from there to El Matazano, and part 2B2, from El Matazano to Nueva Concepción".

El Salvador: Longitudinal Highway Ready in 2012

Fomilenio announced that the 178km of the Northern Longitudinal Highway would be ready in May 2012.

The stretch that runs from Matazano to Nueva Concepción, in Chalatenango, was scheduled to be completed on April 30. Municipal works have delayed it, and should be ready in June.

A new stretch of the 'Longitudinal del Norte' highway, dubbed '2B1', will be developed by builder Santa Fe Ltda., and finished October 2010.

It runs from Santa Rosa Guachipilín, in Santa Ana, to El Matazano in Chalatenango, extending over 7.8 km, with 2 lanes of 3.25 meters each.

$174 million in Highway Construction Bids

In 2009's second half, Fomilenio will call bids in El Salvador for the construction of several highway stretches and two bridges.

The Millennium Fund (Fomilenio) has committed nearly $174 million to be executed in the second half of the year for the enlargement of the Northern Longitudinal Highway (Carretera Longitudinal del Norte, CLN, in Spanish).

Tender for Road in North Eastern El Salvador

Fomilienio expects to tender the first section of the Northern Longitudinal Road in the country’s eastern half.

Specifically, the section that is being designed for tender is the one that runs from Nuevo Edén de San Juan to Gotera.

In an article in laprensagrafica.com, José Ángel Quirós, executive director of Fomilenio, also indicated that the 7 kilometers from Santa Rosa to Guachipelín Matazano will be tendered at the end of May, and that later this year, it expects to launch and award the 2 bridges over the Lempa River: “The 150 meter long En Nombre de Jesús, Sensuntepeque bridge, and the 250 meter long Nuevo Edén de San Juan bridge, in San Miguel."
