El Salvador: $6 million for Tourism Projects

The adaptations for tourist use at the port of Puerto El Triunfo and construction of an ecotourism park are some of the projects which will be developed with IDB funds.

The Ministry of Tourism in El Salvador has signed an agreement with the Inter - American Development Bank to allocate part of the $25 million loan formalized in 2015 to improving tourism infrastructure in the municipalities of Usulutan, Puerto El Triunfo, Berlin, Alegria, Jiquilisco and San Dionisio.

Laprensagrafica.com reports that "...Among the works are the tourism adaptations at the dock in Puerto El Triunfo, expanding the thermal water treatment plant, and construction of an ecotourism park, including infrastructure for an area called Bosque Encantador (Enchanting Forest), in the municipality of Jiquilisco. "

"... Last year a 25 million dollar loan was signed with the IDB for the implementation of the MITUR's tourist program and focus will be given to strengthening the value of tourist attractions, local entrepreneurship, tourism governance and environmental management in 11 municipalities. Inside the department of La Libertad these include Chiltiupán, Comasagua, Jayaque, La Libertad and Tamanique. "

El Salvador: Investments in Tourism for $17 million

January 2017

This year the government plans to invest $17 million on tourism promotion and on works such as the remodeling of tourist docks, and the expansion of Parada and El Triunfo ports.

The Ministry of Tourism in El Salvador is also planning on investing in the purchase of tourist buses, which will circulate in the main tourist routes in the country under agreements with municipalities. Other works include improvements to basic infrastructure such as wharves and tourist stops.

With the IDB loan approved by the Assembly, improvements will be made in docks and piers, jetties and construction of bike paths in tourist areas along the coastal strip.

From a statement issued by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador:

The National Assembly passed with 56 votes, a contract signed between the Salvadoran government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in the amount of $25 million, which will go towards the fund for the "Tourism Development Program of the Coastal - Marina Strip".

The funds will mainly be applied to infrastructure construction projects in the Gaza coastal marine area and loans for tourism SME's.

The Inter-American Development Bank has provided a loan of $25 million for a program of tourism development in the coastal marine strip.

As part of the proposal for Fomilenio II, the government has announced several projects for creating a nucleus of attractions in various parts of the coastal zone.

Among the plans for the development program FOMILENIO II using funds from the U.S., the National Institute of Tourism is promoting the creation of tourist development as part of a strategy that aims to increase tourist visits and create more jobs for the sector.
