El Salvador: $6 million for Irrigation

Construction has been announced of an irrigation system for rice cultivation in the cantons San Cristobal and El Rosario, Santa Ana department, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

The Cooperation Agency donated $4.5 million and the remaining $1.5 million will be provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Minister of Agriculture, Orestes Ortez, explained that "... the irrigation system is for a total of 300 hectares of rice, using irrigation and solar energy technology. Also, Orestes said that in the medium-term they hope to produce 100,000 hundredweight of the grain. "

Elmundo.sv reports that "... The constructive interventions begin in September and the overall project will end in 2016. Its design has been built with Korean experts who have been working in El Salvador for more than a year."

Through an agreement with the Indian company Apollo International Limited an irrigation project will be developed in the Jamastrán Valley, department of El Paraíso.

El Salvador: $5 million in Irrigation Infrastructure

The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated $5 million for the renovation of irrigation infrastructure for 2012.

The Minister of the department, Guillermo Lopez, announcement the investment, the largest in the $107 million project portfolio planned for the year by the entity.

Panama: Irrigation Projects Worth $600 Million

August 2010

Panama's Ministry for Farming Development (Mida) plans to contruct two irrigation projects next year.

One of the projects will be located in Veraguas while the other is in Santa María, both in the centre-west of the country.

"These works add to irrigation projects already underway in the country such as “Remigio Rojas” in Chiriquí and El Caño in Coclé, for which $65.3 and $1.5 million have been invested respectively," reports Pa-digital.com.pa.
