El Salvador: $4.28 billion in Remittances in 2015

In 2015 the country received $4,279.7 million in remittances, 3% more than in the previous year.

From a statement issued by the Central Bank:

In the month of December alone, El Salvador received $423 million in remittances, ie 4.8% more than in the same month in 2014.

In the fourth quarter, the country received $1.1248 billion in remittances, which represented a growth of 5.7% compared to the same quarter last year. Both the fourth quarter and the second were influenced by the results in the months of May and December, associated with the celebration of Mother's Day and Christmas and New Year.

In the same year, 22.2 million transactions were made, among which 5.4 million were for top up payments to mobile phones of residents in the country paid for by people living abroad.
