Gabriel Biguria, Acuamaya’s company manager said, "In 2010 we suffered losses of 25 percent and last year, 20 percent because of the rains, whereas this year we expect normal production without any losses."

"Each year about 1.5 million larvae are produced, of which 30 percent is exported to El Salvador and Costa Rica, and the rest is sold in the local market.

The larvae in the country are grown in about two thousand one hundred acres of ponds, where the shrimp are fattened until they reach their ideal weight.

95 percent of the shrimp are exported to Europe, Mexico, Taiwan, and now sales are even starting to be made to China", reported Prensalibre.com
