Del Monte Reopens Packing Plant

The Administrative Environmental Court authorized Fresh Del Monte to reopen its pineapple packing plant under set conditions.

On May 18th, the Court ordered an immediate stop and closure of the plant´s activities in Siquirres, Limón for surpassing the permitted amount of chemicals in its runoff water.

According to, "The entity approved a contingency plan that was presented by the company that provided for the provisional installment of a temporary cell, in which runoff water will be neutralized properly though chlorination. The measure is provisional while a processing plant is being built."

The Del Monte plant resumed operations today.

New Vegetable Packing Plant in Costa Rica

The plant is located in the canton of Oreamuno in Cartago province, with facilities for receiving, weighing, sorting, packing and shipping horticultural products.

From a statement issued by the Government of Costa Rica:

A new, modern vegetable packing plant began operations in Paso Ancho de Pacayas in the canton of Oreamuno, increasing the export capacity of the Carthaginian community.
