Data Communications to Double in El Salvador

In 2014, the market for fixed and mobile telecommunications in El Salvador will be twice the current one, according to a report by Pyramid Research.

El Salvador is ranked 12 in Latin America in terms of market size, and it is expected that the telecommunications industry in the country will generate $1.5 million in 2009, said José Magaña, analyst and author of the report. "Mobile and broadband services have been the engine for growth in the penetration of the population, which at the end of 2008 was 100% and 2% respectively." Pyramid Research expects the Salvadoran telecommunications market growth to be greater in mobile data services, fixed broadband lines and paid television, all of which are segments with low penetration up to and including 2009."

In its most recent study, Pyramid Research estimated that mobile penetration in Nicaragua will grow from 53.9% in 2010 to over 80% in 2015.

Pyramid also expects the market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.5% over the next five years to advance from $478 million for 2010 to $655 million in 2015, well ahead of the 3.7% average expected for Latin America, notes Jose Magana, Senior Analyst at Pyramid Research.

Broadband Internet Connections Increase 58% in Central America

According to a study by Pyramid Research, between 2004 and 2008 broadband internet connections in Central America increased 58%.

Consultant José Magana, author of the report, remarked that there is a high latent demand for these services in Central America.

“Pyramid estimates that in the next four years there will be 1.65 million more broadband connections in the region”, reported Elfinancierocr.com.

Telecom Market Guatemala: $2.8 Billion in 2014

The telecommunications market in Guatemala will grow at a compound rate of 5% over the next 5 years, reaching $2.800 million in 2014.

Revenues for this market were $1.9 billion in 2009, out of which 62% was generated by the mobile segment, according to a recent study by Pyramid Research.
