On 7 July, the winner of the Cup of Excellence competition will be auctioned via internet The competition began last Monday and involves 47 lots of the finest coffee beans.

Until May 7, 28 international judges will be selecting the best coffee which will then be offered up to electronic auction.

Judges accredited by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) from at least 11countries, will select the best from among the 60 participating samples, each provided from similarly sized coffee farms.

Thirty-three of the grain lots that won the 2009 edition of the Cup of Excellence in El Salvador participated in the auction.

In total $506,221.15 were negotiated during the electronic auction. The winner of the competition, El Topacio farm, reached a price of $22.25 a pound.
