Violence related to Extortion Grows in Guatemala

Four armed attacks, in just ten days, against trucks carrying drinks inside the capital reflects the impunity of organized criminals.

According to investigations by the authorities, the attacks in different areas of the capital were made in response to non-payment of extortion fees on the part of some beverage distributors.

Lahora.com.gt reports that "... investigations by the authorities are underway and suggest various figures that could be behind these events, among them, the Maras, or internal structures trying to achieve something."

"... The truth of the matter is that the criminal groups have caused harm to employees and individuals outside of those companies, because as of today the victim count includes two people are dead and 20 wounded."
