Courier Companies in Panama Redefine Strategies

Companies operating in Panama are designing new services and changes in their organizational structures.

Orlando Carpintero wrote in Prensa.com: "U.S. courier companies FedEx and UPS and the German Company DHL will be restructuring at the global level, including massive personnel layoffs to reduce costs. However, the three companies stressed that Latin America and Panama maintained a solid growth and, therefore, no staff reductions will come to Panama or the rest of the region.

DHL, which will fully focus on services for small and medium sized businesses, which accounts for 90% of the company’s total in the region. It intends to maintain a minimum of 10% in growth for this year."

Increase in Rates for Courier Services

The company DHL has announced that starting January 2015 that the average increase in prices in Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama will be 4.9%.

DHL shipments grows 19% in Panama

Total shipments by DHL Express Panama grew 19% in September when compared to the same months last year.

With regard to inter-annual variation, the movement of goods was 6% higher than in the previous period.
The German multinational company, which has its main hub for Latin America in Panama, is expecting sales to grow by 20% by the end of the year, Sandra Miro, Manger of DHL Express Panama, pointed out.

Courier business expands in Panama

Copa Airlines, a regional carrier, increased its revenues for cargo in the first quarter of the year by 25.5 percent and the courier service DHL reported growth of 6 percent.

Messenger services, better known as couriers, of Copa Holdings and DHL Express have reported a good first quarter.
