Costs of Delayed Mega-Port project in Moin

The delay in permits for a new container dock in the Caribbean side of Costa Rica could lead to increases in the cost of the project and in the rates.

The final approval for the beggining of the construction of Mega Port by in Moin APM Terminals will be left for the next government, a delay which could cause an increase in the cost of the project and in the rates.

" ... According to new calculations of all the things pending in the process, environmental feasibility which must be given by the Environmental Technical Secretariat (Setena), will not be produced before 8 May."

" ... The Constitutional Court ruled that the popular audience on the dock, suspended in November, was to finish." This was resumed on 25 January and when it is concluded, " Setena will prepare an annex containing all of the stated concerns for assessment in terms of environmental impact."

Miguel Marin, acting secretary general of the Setena said that technicians have now finished analyzing the environmental study, but still pending are some questions make to entities that have not yet responded, which could take until April. When the annex has been completed it will be delivered to APM Terminals to answer the questions raised.

Construction of the new container terminal at the Port of Moin can not begin because the environmental feasibility study has not been approved, because it has been delayed due to lack of staff in the Environmental Technical Secretariat (SETENA).
