Costa Rica to Move Caldera Customs Office

The Treasury Department has announced that it has opted for leasing a new building in which to transfer the facilities, "to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, without affecting the customs operation or the requirements of its customers".

Prensa Libre reports comments from Mario Montero, vice president of the Costa Rican food industry chamber (Cacia), "the efficiency and modernization of these commercial premises is a priority for the competetiveness of the country's food industry".

Nicaragua: Another Customs Office on Rio San Juan

A new customs office to be inaugurated in March 2014 will save commercial cargo 140 miles of travel to Puerto Limon in Costa Rica.

The president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), Joseph Adam Aguerri has asked for "strengthening and securing of the new border crossing" in order to promote trade.

Peñas Blancas Improvement Plan Starts

The action plan is designed to address the state of emergency that has been declared on the border between Costa Rica and Panama.

A press release from the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Trade states:

“The five month action plan will involve increasing the number of traffic officers, implementing an electronic collection system for fumigation charges, extending opening hours until midnight, contracting a design for the primary zone, implementing a system of international transit of goods, widening the highway to four lanes, and starting the remodeling of the immigration building. ‘Technological tools exist today that allow us to complete formalities in advance. To promote use of these, and to make the Peñas Blancas border crossing a place to pass through and not to do paperwork, we will establish before the primary zone a checkpoint that will to give priority to exporters who arrive with their paperwork already processed’, said Vice Minister, Fernando Ocampo.

$ 11 Million for Works at Honduran Customs

Works include construction of the Puerto Cortés office which will be tendered during the first quarter of the year.

The start of construction of the mega office of Puerto Cortes is scheduled for next June.

The work plan also expects the construction of a new office in El Amatillo (border with El Salvador).

Honduras: $1.8 Million to Modernize Customs

The Customs Directorate (DEI in Spanish) has announced that this year it plans to revamp seven customs posts.

Miguel Mejía, director of customs revenues, told a press conference that in the short term the aim is to modernize the customs posts to enable them to provide a more flexible and efficient service.
