Costa Rica opens trade office in Panama

Costa Rica opened an Office for the Promotion of TRade (OPC) in Panama, within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

For Emmanuel Hess, general manager of Procomer, "the opening of this office will strengthen the commercial relation between Panama and Costa Rica, which will allow us to benefit more from the economic boom of our neighbor."
During 2008, sales by Costa Rica to its neighbor have grown 35.6%, from $216.38 million recorded in the first eight months of 2007 to 293.32 million this year, according to the Foreign Trade Promoter (Procomex).

Costa Rican Trade Promotion Reopens Office in Chile

The Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) has reopened the Trade Promotion Office (OPC) in Chile.

This office opened its doors for the first time in 1999, when Costa Rica signed a free trade agreement with Chile. However, a few years ago PROCOMER decided to close it in order to establish a new business strategy that would revive the Costa Rican exports to the South American country.

The full session of Congress unanimously approved the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Panama yesterday after the second reading and debate.

In order for the project to become law it must first be signed the president of the Republic, Oscar Arias, and published in the government Gazette.

Costa Rica legislators should approve the agreement this week at the latest after the second debate on the commercial agreement with Panama.

Congress received the ruling from the Constitutional Court which declares that the treaty does not contain any illegalities.
The agreement has the support of all the parties in the Congress, hence its approval should be quick.

Costa Rica to open trade office in New York

The Foreign Trade Promoter will open its office in New York on November 18 and expects to do the same in Los Angeles and Houston some time this year.

As part of reorganization efforts at the entity, Alvaro Chain was named regional director of the Central American Promoter, Emmanuel Hess, general manager of the organization, reported.
